If you do not renew the domain name registration, the registration expires and Estonian Internet Foundation (.EE domain registry) will start the process of domain deletion. Domain deletion takes place in phases.
When searching for domain name availability on our homepage, the following information about expiration, suspension and deletion of the domain is shown:
expire (the expiration of the registration) – domain name expires on that day, homepage and email service are functioning
outzone (zone removal) – the domain name servers don’t respond, homepage and email service are not functioning
delete (the deletion) – domain name is removed, then it is released and can be registered by anyone on a “first come, first served” basis
The first 15 days after the expiration of the domain name, the homepage and the email service, associated with this domain, work. Over the next 30 days, those services are already not available in the internet. During the whole 45 days, domain owner can reactivate and renew the domain name. After 15 + 30 days the domain is removed and therefore, for the last 24 hours domain is under the quarantine.
In order to reactivate the expired domain name, on our website choose “My Zone” and log in using your ZoneID account information. Then on the service overview page under “Domains” choose “My domains” and click “Reactivate” next to the domain name. Following the instructions you can submit a reactivation order and pay the invoice.
The invoice is generated in the process of submitting a reactivation order. The order is taken into process after the invoice is paid and the payment has arrived in Zone system. Already submitted request and invoice are shown in “Orders“.
If you choose to pay via bank link or using a credit card, then the payment will arrive in our system within 15 minutes. The work of the home-page and the emails will resume in a few hours. If you wish to pay by a simple bank transfer, it may take a couple working days and international payments a week to reach us. When paying by bank transfer, we strongly recommend adding the domain name and the invoice number into “details”. We would also ask you to definitely add a reference number.
